Organization Transformation

Consulting organizations face an unusual challenge when crafting their approach to developing programs. Especially when a consulting company is unfamiliar or untested, businesses often prefer to keep the focus of the engagement narrow or limited in scope. Anything that isn’t on the short list of key deliverables gets the axe. That can mean cutting out anything perceived as non-essential to the nascent program.

I was reading a report from Kelly Services this week titled Gen Y @ Work (Available from IDG Connect at this link).  It described how for the first time, four generations are employed side by side in many organizations today - Silent Generation, Baby Boomers, Generation X and Generation Y.

I read a blog post a few weeks ago from Nick Milton, Director and Founder of Konco, LTD., a Knowledge Management services company based in the UK.  His blog post was about BP's Knowledge Management program in the late 1990's and how they were traveling to various sites, spreading the news about Knowledge Management at BP.

In my last blog post, I wrote about Alvin Toffler's quote about the illiterate of the 21st century would be those who can't learn, unlearn and relearn.  I came across another related blog post a couple of days later by Tim Kastelle at the Innovation Leadership Network titled Don't Hire Experience, Hire Learners.

I came across a quote last week that was attributed to Alvin Toffler and thought it was a profound statement -

"The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn.

I am a messy popcorn eater. I believe in picking up a fistful of popcorn and seeing exactly how much I can get into my mouth in one bite. This habit unfortunately does have the unintended consequence of many kernels of popcorn ending up on the floor.
