What does excellence in records and information management (RIM) look like to you or your organization?  Is it adherence to a recognized standard?  Is it being able to find the right information at the right time, say during discovery for a lawsuit?  It it your employees being able to find what they need to be able to do their jobs and contribute to the goals of the organization?

The answers to these questions can certainly be an indication that an organization is trying to achieve excellence in RIM.  But it certainly can be more than just these items.

Blogs are simply publishing platforms that make it easy for users to create and publish content. Most traditional publishing platforms require a bit of a learning curve, whether for the tool itself or for the markup language used to encode the content. Many ARMA chapters for example have a hard time maintaining their websites because that requires someone to know HTML, probably Javascript, and maybe even a particular tool like Microsoft FrontPage or Adobe Dreamweaver.

As companies grapple with the recent economic changes, I’ve noticed a definite shift in how projects are being resourced. Gone are the days of full time team members and dedicated resources. Today’s project managers are faced with relying more heavily on part-time team members. But this new reality doesn’t have to be a bad situation.

Let’s face it, part-time teams are normal! People are much better at working part-time on several projects than we were years ago. It also helps that collaboration tools are better now too.
