Many readers will be familiar with the terms ECM (Enterprise Content Management) and ERM (Enterprise Records Management). So what is ECRM and where does it fit in the information management landscape?

I'm the first to admit that we have too many acronyms in our world. Way too many. And now we have the new language of texts: BRB. WRT. TTFN. Oh - that last one was Tigger-speak, not cell phone text-speak. In any case, I'm guessing you agree that acronyms are a challenge to decipher. So why would we add another one? E-C-R-M? Well, we found that the software industry was inadvertently causing some organizational pain for our clients with their acronyms as they tried to sort through their information and technology management solution, so we decided to help broaden the definition of ECM (Enterprise Content Management) and ERM (Enterprise - or Electronic - Records Management) to something more holistic: ECRM (Enterprise Content and Records Management).

I'm the Director of Legal Business Consulting with Access Sciences. The goal of the legal practice is to provide solutions for our clients that best fit their risk tolerance. Or more simply said – provide tools and services that meets the clients' business needs. If their need is for gold-plated, never fail tools – we do that. But not all companies can afford or even need the top-shelf automated tools – it depends on their litigation portfolio and assessment of the complexity of their environment. You have to ask – do they need an F-16 or a Piper Cub.

I am the Director of the ECRM Business Consulting Services practice at Access Sciences. In ECRM Business Consulting, we design information architecture components, such as taxonomies and metadata models, and we create policies, processes, and other governance structures necessary to implement and maintain those components. We build for the enterprise and can implement down to the work group or department.

I am a Principal Consultant at Access Sciences, with feet in both the Technology and Enterprise Content and Records Management (ECRM) practice areas. My background is Information Technology, where I've done almost everything from programming, systems development and database work to technical infrastructure and customer support center. More than anything, I enjoying working with my clients to help them solve their business problems and find a better way to do things, whether it is finding the right information or exploiting the use of an application.

I am the Director of Access Sciences' Organization Transformation practice area. Aside from utilizing just about every vowel in the English language, this practice area specializes in preparing organizations and employees to capitalize on new information management tools and processes. Through a focus on human behavior and the supporting organization structures, we help our clients determine how best to prepare their organizations for the "new world".

Jesse beat me to “Hello World” (for the non-technologists out there, getting a computer application to print “Hello World” is a typical first exercise when learning a new programming language). In any event, it’s a pleasure to be able to contribute to this blog from a technology and process viewpoint. I’m responsible for the Technology Consulting Practice at Access Sciences and have the opportunity to work with a very talented team who bring a wide-range of skills and experience that span the technical and business worlds.

I'm a Principal Consultant with Access Sciences, meaning that I do client-facing work but also do a lot of research and business development. I've done a lot of work in the past on document imaging, ECM, and software development and testing. More recently I've focused on electronic records management, email management, and especially Web/Enterprise/Buzzword 2.0; that's also what I will tend to focus on in this blog. I'm a huge proponent of the value proposition of Web 2.0 - and for using the right tool for the organization.
