Everything You Wanted to Know about SharePoint
by Doug SchultzAIIM, the community that provides education, research, and best practices to help organizations find, control, and optimize their information, released an E-Book this week titled "8 things you wanted to know about SharePoint, but were afraid to ask." You can find a summary of the book at this link.
Full Disclosure - I contributed a chapter to the book.
I believe it's a great resource for organizations that are looking at implementation of SharePoint or even for those that have implemented it, but haven't seen the full benefits they expected from the technology.
We advise clients that the technology is just a small part of an overall ECM strategy. While the book covers some of the technical aspects of implementing SharePoint, it's also about the other items associated with an ECM strategy. From a capture standpoint, the book includes how to pick an application for scanning into SharePoint. It also has a chapter on automatic classification and metadata tagging using SharePoint. There is a chapter about making content more findable. The book has chapters on using SharePoint for Collaboration and Social Computing and how it can be used in Transactional Processing. It has chapters on why many consider SharePoint a true ECM system. It has a chapter about SharePoint governance and things to consider when implementing it with another ECM system.
You download the summary book free, without registration to get an overview of each contributors chapters in the full book. You'll need to be a member of AIIM to download the full book.
If you are in the Information Management space or are responsible for a project at your company that is implementing an ECM system, a membership in AIIM is well worth it. Besides this book, they have many other resources available, including market research, white papers and other E-books.
Feel free to contact us to help with any chapters in the book that you find interesting or need further information on. We have consultants in both the Technology and Business Consulting practices that are well versed in everything related to SharePoint.
